With Spider-Man currently setting the pop culture world ablaze with a hit videogame on PlayStation 4, we thought it’d be a great time to explore his extensive history in the form of his various super suits. After all, the world famous wall crawler features one of the most iconic costumes of any Marvel hero: the red and blue color scheme, the web pattern and the big eyes are just as recognizable as Superman’s S-insignia or the pointed ears of Batman’s cowl.

It’s a testament to co-creator Steve Ditko’s design that Spidey’s get up remains largely unchanged, though that’s not to say that the webslinger hasn’t switched outfits. But with the exception of a few outfits, most of Spider-Man’s sudden uniform changes were short-lived. Here’re just some of the many many costumes Spider-Man has worn, and the unique circumstances behind them.
