That Imee Marcos ‘Laglagan’ Video Is the Most Confusing Thing You’ll See Today

That Imee Marcos ‘Laglagan’ Video Is the Most Confusing Thing You’ll See Today

Mar 30, 2020   •   Kyzia Maramara

It looks like a certain senator woke up on the right side of the bed one day and decided to do something useful for once. Key word: once.

Senator Imee Marcos’ name trended on Twitter and it’s not because of the usual flak she gets for being a less-than-effective politician. Lo and behold, it’s actually because she seemed to be calling out the government to speed up their crisis response and help Filipinos.

In today’s episode of “Laglagan with Imee”

— K A H E L🇵🇭 (@KahelJay) March 29, 2020

“Sabi ko nga, hindi ngayon ang panahon na mag-kuripot! Mula yan sa dakilang Ilokana. Kung may pera man, ilabas na, ilabas na. Itodo na ang tulong sa tao. Ngayon na, please lang.” – (Marcos, 2020)

Confusion is an understatement. Is this really Imee? Did she really make a mini vlog just to pull out receipts to call out the government and help the Filipino people? Next thing you know, she has her own TikTok account. Insert face palm emoji. [Madame, don’t get any ideas. — Editor]

But Imee must realize that she’s part of the government too. She should set an example and open up the floodgates of her riches to help the Filipinos in need. Ngayon na, please lang.

Not gonna lie, she made some valid points

Ayan #BureauOfCustoms binuking kayo ni Senator Imee Marcos , ilabas nyo na ang delata nagugutom na ang mga Pilipino huwag nyo na pabulukin pa yan ibigay nyo sa mga nagugutom, maawa kayo sa mga apektado ng no work no pay! #TanongNgTaongBayan #ImeeSolusyon https://t.co/KGY45XYoyx

“Wag na muna yang mga emergency, emergency na yan. Yung mga emergency powers, baka nasisindak pa yung tao, natatakot. Papano yan, wala naman silang nakikita na tulong, na pag-kain, gamot, testing kit?” (Marcos, 2020)

For the third week of the enhanced community quarantine, we get Imee trying to be the voice of the marginalized.

Her video contained photos of unreleased canned goods and sacks of rice. Imee also mentioned that she is text mates with some farmers from Ilocos, Nueva Ecija, and Isabela and they shared that they have been “full-on” harvesting rice. After she mentioned the Department of Agriculture’s billions of budget, she goes on to say that these should be used immediately to secure food for Filipinos.

The greatest character development you’ll see… this week

It’s Imee talking logically, true. It’s Imee, also true. Regardless, you can tell the government is so good at being ineffectual when of all people Imee starts talking back.

We’re not sure what possessed her to make that video and challenge the government officials (could it be her alter ego?) but we’re glad she did. Someone had to say it, and we have to say that it’s entertaining interesting to see her camp’s heads explode.

And if you like what you hear but don’t like what you see, close your eyes and pretend someone else is speaking

Imee vs Duterte is just the sequel of Alien vs Predator. Whoever wins, we lose. https://t.co/7cNAraFhAL

— KORINA VIRUS (@Punongbayan_) March 30, 2020

The way Imee cheerily delivered her bars like a sibling taunting her fellow siblings was a sight to behold. She’s playing the hero and we want to side with her, the problem is, it’s fricking Imee Marcos.

Dear Smugglers, Imee has your details

imee marcos calling out on smugglers to donate their goods………….. what……………. im……….. this some wild shit

— #HandsOffActivists #OustDuterte (@chanakngqc) March 30, 2020

“Hoy yung mga smuggler ha, meron kayong record. Hindi sikreto kung sino mayo, at hindi rin sikreto sa inyong mga bodega. Ano ba naman? I-donate niyo nalang ‘yan. Now’s the time, mag-bago na tayo.” (Marcos, 2020)

Smugglers got a direct shout out from Imee who asked them to donate their smuggled goods like she’s personal close friends with them. We wouldn’t put it past her to know a few smugglers (or to be one herself). But if she has their details, why not just hand them over to the authorities so they can be dealt with?

Let’s just take this to an online rambulan group

u made lots of points but it doesn’t make u less magnanakaw xD plus it’s ur job lol

dds vs imee marcos rambulan group sa fb pls https://t.co/12nrQyKT2d

— ralph (@1KRadon) March 30, 2020

DDS vs. Imee Marcos. damn it! this is the real definition of online rambulan.

DDS Cinematic Universe is shaking. i live for this.

— 💡 i a n doesn’t like watermelon (@jcsaylo) March 30, 2020

DDS must be seething, if not confused. They thought Imee is a fellow fanatic but then she does a 180, purposely digs up receipts and suddenly she’s part of the millions asking Tatay Digong for action. If Imee thinks a simple video like this will redeem her name to the millions of Filipino people her family robbed, she has to think again. One “cute” deed like this isn’t going to cover up a mountain of wrongdoings. Rambulan nalang.

But don’t be fooled, this could be her way of a subtle campaign

To people like the Marcoses, every move is calculated and it’s safe to assume there’s always a little bit more to their actions than what they’re letting on. Imee, no matter how clueless she might look like (and she does), knows for sure that while the coronavirus pandemic is doing numbers in the Philippines, President Duterte’s loyal followers are declining. She knows Filipinos are furious with how the government is handling this crisis and she needs to be on the right side of the issue. Between her brother facing his own battles with illness and the President tangled in his web of emergency powers, this is Imee trying to show that she is listening to the people and she is sympathetic. If only that were true. She might have sold her DDS rights but the other side won’t take her in that easily.

In conclusion, #NeverForget

Since Imee is trending, let’s not forget the OG kawatans of the Philippines. pic.twitter.com/2A4J3u8eva

Big words coming from Imee.

— Liana🌻 (@originofspring) March 30, 2020

At the end of the day, the Marcoses remain the epitome of greed and corruption in the Philippines. One of them might post quirky videos and one of them might have been recently hospitalized and is asking for sympathy and prayers, but we must #NeverForget the sins they did to this country and how they haven’t even begun paying for it. Not in the slightest.

What do you think of Imee’s video?
