Gird your loins, because The Devil Wears Prada 2 is officially out! When it was announced that the iconic film The Devil Wears Prada would have a sequel, many fans rejoiced (us included). And now that the film is finally here, we can say with absolute certainty that it was worth the wait.
Twenty years later, in this eagerly awaited sequel to the 2006 phenomenon that defined a generation, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci return as Miranda, Andy, Emily, and Nigel to the fashionable streets of New York City and the sleek offices of Runway Magazine.
Details on the plot were kept under wraps, but we saw from the trailers that Andy returns to Runway as its new features editor, where Miranda and Nigel have remained for the past 20 years. The trio seeks Emily’s help, who has become an executive at a luxury fashion house.

These days, it’s rare to see a sequel that meets expectations, especially with many studios banking on the nostalgia fans feel. But The Devil Wears Prada 2 is a sequel done right, living up to its iconic predecessor while evolving alongside a world that looks nothing like it did in 2006. It captures the overwhelming reality of the modern 2026 from the rise of social media and AI, the slow death of print, and the importance of human artistry through it all.

When Nigel laments that Runway stopped being a magazine years ago, it hits hard. Watching Andy scramble to maintain journalistic integrity in a world obsessed with virality feels like a personal attack on anyone who ever wanted to write for a living. Still, the film balances these heavy modern issues without letting them overpower each other or the charm that made the original a classic.
We know fans would be delighted to see the nostalgic, familiar beats: the opening sequence of Andy’s morning routine, the frantic phone calls, the running around New York City in stylish clothing, and the iconic outfit montages that demand a rewatch just to catch every detail. There’s even a playful homage to Meryl Streep’s iconic cerulean monologue in the first movie, truly proving that the choices made in her office are still observed in the fashion world (or basically everywhere) 20 years later.
This sequel has just the right amount of callbacks to the first film, and each one is executed masterfully, making it feel earned. So many full-circle moments!

One of the things that made the movie more exciting was the cameos. The screen is packed with cameos, ranging from fashion legends like Donatella Versace to social media stars like Amelia Dimoldenberg to modern pop royalty like Lady Gaga, who had a few lines herself while performing a new song. These familiar faces, combined with a fresh generation of characters like Amari, Jin, and Charlie, make the world feel both expansive and lived-in, even 20 years later. It was a treat to see familiar faces, whether at a function or on a runway in the movie.
The soundtrack delivers just as well, with tracks from Lady Gaga, Doechii, Madonna, Laufey, and more, making the film richer with well-timed intros and exciting montages.

At its emotional core, however, the movie remains a story about the original four: Miranda, Andy, Emily, and Nigel. Their character development over the twenty-year gap is the true star of the film.
Seeing Miranda transition from the lonely divorcee in the first film to a woman with a partner waiting for her shows a beautifully subtle growth. There’s something so lovely about mirroring that vulnerable Paris hotel room scene in the first film with a Milan version that shows Miranda has finally found a bit of personal stability in her new husband, played by Kenneth Branagh.

Then there’s Andy, who has blossomed into her own person as a journalist, and the ever-ambitious Emily, who continues to climb the ranks in her own way.
But it is Nigel who truly steals the show, moving us to tears twice (guess which scenes!). Seeing Miranda finally give him the flowers he deserved after years of being taken for granted was such a beautiful moment that paid off Nigel’s (and our) twenty-year wait.

It’s apparent that every character had their fair share of development. After all, change is the only constant thing in the world, and a 20-year gap in the characters’ lives would give improvement (even in the littlest ways).
Please bore someone else with your questions.
But really, do you even need to ask? The sequel might have moved at a glacial pace (it took twenty years!), but you know how it thrills everyone (Miranda included) that it’s finally here.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is a sequel done right and a movie that demands a rewatch — and yes, we’re buying another ticket to see it again as we speak. It is a heartfelt, stylish, and deeply relevant sequel that proves some things stay the same even when everything has changed.
Whether you’re here for the fashion, the nostalgia, or the unexpectedly insightful commentary on the digital age, this sequel lives up to all the hype. We can’t see any fan of the first film not falling in love with this sequel. But we can definitely see this sequel being another classic that everyone would always come back to.
Just like Nigel, The Devil Wears Prada 2 deserves all its flowers, and you should go see it. That’s all.

P.S. We suggest you watch the first film (available on Disney+!) before and after you see the sequel, so you can appreciate all the callbacks. We caught so many on our first watch, but we’re sure we’ll find more in our next screenings, so gird your loins!
