Elon Musk’s obsession with the letter X has single-handedly ended an Internet era. On July 24, he unveiled a new “X” logo to replace Twitter’s famous blue bird, the social media platform he bought for $44 billion in 2022. The change hasn’t rolled out on the mobile app yet, but the X logo has already appeared on desktop versions. “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds,” tweeted Musk. Of course, this decision did not sit well with the Internet, who just had to roast Musk’s latest attempt at a Twitter rebrand and — in the near future — changing the world.
The X logo looks like it’s for one of those ridiculous fragile masculinity subscription box services that would send you like an axe, a bottle of hot sauce, small batch coffee, and some beard oil every month in 2019.

This isn’t the Twitter rebrand we ordered, TBH. We wanted folders for bookmarks!
the X logo looks like a new dating app where men are the only ones who can message women first and if you deny their advancements the app gives them your address https://t.co/fzuCaPXZON

And we definitely do not need that.
it’s pronounced ” ” cuz the x is silent like in hunter hunter and spy family https://t.co/UsSPC8lOoS

Maybe we should be thankful it’s not spelled X Æ A-12.
lol check out how the “scratch” doesn’t extend across the X, because the X is in a black square on top of the background, a 12 year old would be embarrassed to post this on a web forum https://t.co/09Yif136UY

The Internet caught Musk red-handed with this one.
Twitter’s new X logo wasn’t made by an in-house designer. It’s from an old podcast hosted by one of the cult that Elon took from his replies.
The font is @Monotype’s Special Alphabets 4. Who wants to bet Musk didn’t pay for the rights before slapping it all over the place? pic.twitter.com/vB33pDIzeb

Some folks just had to dig deep, especially after Martin Grasser’s viral thread on how he designed Twitter’s iconic blue bird in 2012.

PSA, you can rebrand but still pay homage to the past.

Duolingo is the only bird we respect now.
Of course, Angkas had to chime in.
