It’s the finals of the UAAP Men’s basketball and we have the two top seeds in the UST Growling tigers and the FEU Fighting Tamaraws competing for the crown. There will be a best out of three system so the first team to win two games will be the season 78 champion. Will Ferrer continue his undeniable form or will Belo rise to the occasion the shutout the Tigers? Here are 8 predictions for this week’s UAAP Men’s Basketball finals.
The Growling Tigers will look to improve their record against FEU this season by beating them a third time. UST coach Bong Dela Cruz has stated that despite sweeping FEU during the regular season, it will be a different ballgame when the title is on the line. This is good for UST because overlooking an opponent can be disastrous. Expect UST to walk away with the victory in game 1.
UST will fall to the Fighting Tamaraws in game 2 due to fatigue. Expect a tired UST team to come to play in game 2. UST will try to claim the title on this day but will ultimately fall short to the firepower of Mac Belo and the Fighting Tamaraws.
Game 1 is usually the time when the two teams feel each other out. This won’t be the case as Kevin Ferrer will come out confident and guns a-blazin’. Losing out to Kiefer Ravena for the season MVP title, Ferrer will definitely be hungry for silverware before the season ends. He’s also a very good bet for finals MVP. Expect Ferrer to drop 20+ points in game 1.
After a grueling loss to UST in game 1, FEU will strategically pull themselves together and find a way to come out victorious in game 2. UST will most likely rotate their squad much more due to fatigue from the first game. Kevin Ferrer will most likely play less minutes in order to save his energy for a possible game 3. The star of game 2 will be Mac Belo who will take advantage of the tired UST team. Expect a close game, but Mac Belo will break UST hearts.
Both teams have young players with a lot to offer. The star players from both sides will be heavily guarded giving the young guns an opportunity to give all that they’ve got in order to clinch the victory for their team.
UST will use Karim Abdul’s size and technical ability in the 3rd game since FEU will look to neutralize Ferrer. This diversion will ultimately lead them to their first championship since 2006.
The top seeded team has definitely been the team to watch this season and it’s hard to think of a scenario wherein they don’t in fact win the silverware. It’s been inevitable but anything can happen in the finals. Expect both Ferrer and Abdul to combine and provide FEU a task that is too much for them to handle.
Ferrer will bring his team on his shoulders with a lot of help from Abdul during game 3 of the finals. He will most likely be quiet during game 2 but will emerge the clear best player of the series. The whole UST team will work together to claim the UAAP season 78 title but expect Ferrer to bring home the finals MVP after missing out on the regular season MVP
