Last 20 February 2021, Alex Gonzaga posted a vlog entitled “A Day with Mayor Vico.” Just as the title says, Alex visited Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto’s office, explored his workplace, and met the government employees. In signature Alex G fashion, it was a little chaotic, with the vlogger joking around a lot. But as expected, Mayor Vico Sotto was able to keep up, showing his knowledge and prowess in answering questions as he handled the chaotic vlog filming like a pro.
When the mayor welcomed the vlogger to the city hall, he was wearing his face mask and face shield properly for the whole vlog. Except for one time when he had to eat and drink, which is understandable. And he still kept his distance when he removed his mask.
Comments on the Youtube video praised how he followed protocols. “Mayor Vico always keeps (sic) his distance from other people no. Nung kumain siya ng biko, ang bilis din niya binalik yung face mask sa mouth niya. A man who knows that he must be a good role model to his constituents and to the viewers also,” one comment said.
He toured Alex Gonzaga around the city hall on a Saturday, while answering some questions from the vlogger and keeping up with her jokey personality.
When Alex asked him why he became a mayor, he answered, “Ito ‘yung nakita kong opportunity na magpakilala ng pagbabago sa lungsod natin.”
This is not anything new we’ve heard from the Pasigueño, and he has always been consistent in his answer.
Mayor Vico was all praise for the local government employees all throughout the vlog. When they entered the city hall’s lobby, Alex teased the front desk staff that they might just be using social media while on the job. The mayor was quick to say, “Pag Saturday, wala naman masyado[ng tao], ‘no?”
He commended the employees for working even on a Saturday. “Walang instruction [galing] sa akin na mag-overtime.” When Alex smelled food and found the source inside an office, he followed up with more compliments. “Sa sobrang sipag ng staff natin, dito na sila natutulog, kumakain.”
“Pumapatol ka ba sa bashers?” is one of Alex’s questions. The mayor answered honestly and gracefully, “Minsan, pero dapat di ka masyadong maapektuhan. Pero sa isang banda, naniniwala ako, dapat as a public servant, tinitignan ko din ’yung feedback.” Advice from the mayor you can use in all aspects of life!
While in the mayor’s office, Alex commented on how little to no photos he has in the space, even joking that he should just use a photo of Pinoy delicacy biko as a replacement.
Of course, Mayor Vico simply said he doesn’t like having his photos displayed. “Atsaka, pag project ng LGU, bawal maglagay ng malaking pangalan ko. Bawal ‘yun,” he explained. “Kasi pera ng taumbayan iyon, e. Bakit ako maglalagay ng pangalan ko?”
Laging tandaan na wala kayong utang na loob kahit kanino (lalo na sa politiko) dahil pera ito ng taumbayan. Na-a-appreciate ko naman kapag may nagpapasalamat sa kin pero naiilang ako dahil di ko pera to.
Mag-aral lang kayo nang mabuti, sulit na ang investment ng Pasig sa inyo.

When Alex brought up a tweet from November 2020 that stated similar thoughts, the mayor further elaborated, “Ang ibig ko lang sabihin wala tayong utang na loob sa mga politiko. Pwede tayong magpasalamat kasi maganda ‘yung proyekto, maganda ‘yung programa, pero wala tayong utang na loob. Iba ‘yun eh.”
Mayor Vico Sotto doesn’t often answer questions about his personal life, especially his love life. But when Alex asked straightforwardly if he wanted to give Pasig “a first lady,” the mayor answered as honestly as she did. “Sa ngayon, hindi priority yan. Lalo na nu’ng nag-pandemic, talagang wala ka ng time. Focus muna tayo sa trabaho,” he said.
In terms of having a showbiz family, he said he never had the urge to join the same industry. “Pinilit lang nila ako nun,” he said about his viral dance video while chuckling. He shared that he had always wanted to work in government since he was a child, especially with his brother LA Mumar’s support.
Mayor Vico Sotto also expressed that he is grateful for having “very supportive” parents. “Medyo natakot sila para sa akin (to enter the government), pero kahit ganu’n ‘yung feeling nila, talagang very supportive sila. Swerte ako ‘yung parents ko very down to earth,” he said.
As always, Alex’s vlogs are full of jokes and humorous comments for her audience. But Mayor Vico was able to keep up and banter with her, even hitting her sometimes with his own quips. When Alex kept on eating the food she brought, he teased, “Akala ko ba bigay mo sa’kin itong biko, bakit ikaw ‘yung umuubos?” chuckling right after.
The vlogger asked if he had plans to run for a higher office and, when he was about to answer, followed up with a joke that she was just talking about an office on the fourth floor. The mayor immediately quipped, “Sinasabi ko wala kasi nasa eighth floor na tayo e. Wala namang ninth floor dito.” Wit at work nga naman.
There are a lot more other witty and hilarious comments from the mayor in the vlog. But we already knew that Mayor Vico Sotto is a funny guy. He just proved it to us again.
