A lot of people love to stroke their chins and regard Netflix as the premium streaming service with an eye for some of the best must-watch prestige TV. But the truth is Netflix has greater ambitions than just being a high power brand. It wants to be the all consuming void of visual entertainment. That’s why it has fast become one of the biggest streaming homes for anime.
Forget premium dramas, original films, and exclusive comedy. While CrunchyRoll and Funimation tend to hit walls when it comes to region-specific distribution rights for some of the biggest anime brands, Netflix sidesteps this limitation by co-financing some of the latest anime in exchange for worldwide rights.
It’s already been an incredible half-year so far and June will be the biggest month for Netflix, with a major haul of anime all dropping within this one month.
