It’s been a while since we’ve had an adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic masterpieces (the last one being 2022’s modernized and divisive Persuasion), so I’m glad to report that 2026’s Sense and Sensibility is an Austen adaptation worth your while. Definitely one you should see in the theater, and here’s why.
ICYDK, Sense and Sensibility follows sisters Elinor and Marianne, along with their youngest sister Margaret and mother Mrs. Dashwoood, as they face love, loss, and financial hardship after their father’s death forces them from their family estate.

This adaptation brings a totally fresh vibe to a timeless story, while still remaining faithful to the source material.
Visually, the film is a gorgeous masterpiece that’ll completely blow you away, delivering some seriously stunning, wide shots of the lush, rolling English countryside, making it look clearer, deeper, and warmer than ever before. The costumes and sets are put together with so much love and attention to detail, hitting that perfect sweet spot between being historically accurate and having a sleek, modern look.

At the heart of the film is the nuanced dynamic between Daisy Edgar-Jones as the restrained Elinor and Esmé Creed-Miles as the passionate Marianne. Their believable portrayal of sisterhood grounds the story’s emotional weight, balancing Elinor’s quiet resilience with Marianne’s headstrong idealism. Because deep down, the story of the Dashwood sisters still really hits home today.

Beyond the romance, the adaptation focuses more on the bond between sisters surviving sudden financial hardship and emotional heartbreaks. And their journey to find a good balance between head and heart really clicks with modern audiences, giving us a touching and thought-provoking look at the messy side of romance, the heavy pressure of society’s rules, and the bittersweet journey of growing up.
Despite being set in a completely different century, it easily steps right out of the Regency era to speak directly to us today.

You should definitely see it! At the end of the day, this take on Sense and Sensibility is worth the watch not only because it’s an Austen story, but because the film itself honors the intelligence and spirit of Austen’s story, diving into a brilliantly told, emotional journey that shows exactly why her writing still grabs our attention and touches our hearts hundreds of years later.
