Get Ready to Hear These 8 Pinoy Christmas Songs on the Radio (if you haven’t already)

Sep 12, 2019   •   Michellan Alagao

It’s officially Christmas season (or September, to the rest of the world)! If you haven’t started humming or singing along to Christmas songs by now, are you even really Filipino? Just kidding. But we’re definitely not kidding when we say that you’ll be hearing the songs in this list very, very soon. So be prepared.

Christmas in Our Hearts

You’ve seen the memes, now hear the song! Hear it during your commute to work — in the bus, car, jeep, or van. Hear it in the office. Hear it in the mall. Hear it whenever you see girls and boys selling lanterns on the street. Don’t fight it. Just believe that Christmas is truly in our hearts.

Himig ng Pasko

A quiet song that reflects on the joy that Christmas brings. It was originally from the Apo Hiking Society and has been covered by other artists such as Gary V. Great to listen to on cool “ber” evenings, before the holiday festivities start, or after, when everyone else has gone home and you’re about to go to bed.

Kumukutikutitap

Don’t let the whimsy and playfulness of this song fool you because it’s actually pretty complex. The music and wordplay fit together perfectly, thanks to Ryan Cayabyab’s music and Jose Javier Reyes’ lyrics. Listen carefully the next time you hear it to fully appreciate the sound and imagery of the Filipino language.

Mano Po, Ninong

Quick, hide! Your inaanaks are ready to ambush you with this song and request for gifts and/or cash. Alternatively, you can rehearse this song and get ready to ambush YOUR ninongs and ninangs.

Namamasko aka’ Sa May Bahay Ang Aming Bati”

With Christmas comes caroling, and what’s a set list for Pinoy carolers without this song? You’ll hear it outside your house, on the streets, and among children everywhere as the caroling season begins.

Ang Pasko ay Sumapit (official title Maligayang Pasko at Manibagong Taon)

With lyrics written by Levi Celerio, the National Artist for Music and Literature in 1997, this catchy song is usually what caroling kids begin with (this, or “Namamasko”, the song above), in a loud, off-tune chorus. One kid will be hitting a tambourine too, if you’re lucky.

Pasko na Naman

This is another Christmas classic with lyrics from Levi Celerio and music by Felipe De Leon (also a National Artist). This cheerful song reminds us of family reunions, school choirs, church events, and Christmas salubong.

Pasko Na Sinta Ko

This melancholy tune is a favorite among Filipinos overseas, or families with loved ones working abroad. It captures that feeling of missing someone you love and how the holidays are incomplete without him or her.

What is you favorite Pinoy Christmas song! Tell us below!
