Before we fell in love with our K-pop biases, these K-drama oppas stole our hearts. The classic K-dramas they starred in had us glued to our seats and wishing for a Koreanovela-worthy love story of our own. Let’s rewind for a second and remember those simpler times. Here are some of the OG Korean actors that made us swoon growing up.
We all fell for egotistical and stubborn Lee Young-jae in Full House. Rain was already a big deal in Korea before Full House, but because of this drama, he became a household name all over the world. His famous “three bears” scene is still being used in variety shows and K-dramas today. Rain is now a loving husband to Kim Tae-Hee and a father to two girls. He’s still active in the music scene and his fans are waiting for his next K-drama role.
Gong Yoo has starred at some of the most popular K-dramas and movies of all time. His international breakout role was as Choi Han-gyul in the hit K-drama Coffee Prince, where his great acting and pleasing personality immediately captivated fans. Till this day he is still considered to be one of the most bankable actors in South Korea. With his memorable roles and endorsements, we are sure we’ll keep seeing this OG oppa for a very long time.
This tall and handsome actor got us falling in love with the Grim Reaper. Lee Dong Wook has portrayed many memorable roles. His first major role was in the hit K-drama My Girl, where he played Seol Gong-chan, the heir to the biggest hotel in South Korea who falls in love with a tour guide from Jeju Island. He is also famous for his role as the Grim Reaper in the popular 2016 K-drama Goblin. Today he is still one of Korea’s top heartthrobs. With multiple endorsements and magazine covers, it’s hard to get over this handsome actor.
The K-drama that made us fall in love with the idea of traveling to Paris and eventually meeting our special someone there, Lovers In Paris was full of beautiful scenes as well as a plot that is full of feels. Its leading man Park Shin-yang became one of the most talked-about Korean actors because of the hit K-drama. After staying out of the spotlight for five years, he made his comeback in the drama My Lawyer, Mr. Jo in 2016.
So Ji-sub has this mysterious and sexy personality that we can’t help but fall for. His role in Memories of Bali kicked off his career. While he once thought that he would only land second lead male roles, he ended up starring in the drama I’m Sorry, I Love You, cementing his heartthrob status. Today, he is still one of the most in-demand actors in South Korea. After starring in unforgettable dramas and movies, there is no stopping this amazing actor.

K-dramas are supposed to have soft moments that make our hearts flutter, but this particular K-drama broke our hearts because of its heartbreaking plot. Stairway To Heaven skyrocketed Kwon Sang-woo’s career when he starred as Cha Song-joo, a man who experienced loss at a young age who falls in love with his childhood friend Han Jung-Suh. Although he experienced a lot of highs and lows in his career, Kwon Sang-woo is still one of the most popular actors of South Korea.
This actor starred in two of the most talked-about K-dramas of yesteryear. Jo In-sung starred in Memories Of Bali as Jung Jae-Min, a rich playboy who is constantly belittled by his family. The K-drama’s heartbreaking plot and high ratings made Jo In-sung a household name. After his enlistment in 2013, he starred in The Winter The Wind Blows as Oh Soo a man who meets a blind girl that makes him believe in love again. Jo In-sung has starred in a lot more noteworthy K-dramas and movies, making him one of the most respected actors in South Korea.
Who can forget Crash Landing On You’s Ri Jeong-hyuck? But before he played the role of the handsome North Korean captain, he starred in My Name Is Kim Sam Soon as Hyun Jin-heon, the owner of Bon Appetit restaurant who has to arrange a fake relationship with Kim Sam Soon, a pastry chef at his restaurant. Today, he is still one of the most successful South Korean actors. After starring in Crash Landing On You he is set to play another major role for a South Korean movie.
