More Awesome Spanish Netflix Series to Watch After ‘Money Heist’

There’s no better time like the present to binge-watch another great series and there’s no shortage of great TV shows on Netflix. If you can’t move on from Money Heist Part 4 and you’re looking for something new to get obsessed with, these Spanish Netflix series has got you covered. Bonus if you get inspired to learn their language after watching a couple of episodes.

 

Narcos (2015-present)

The true story of Colombia’s infamously violent and powerful drug cartels fuels this gritty gangster drama series.

Narcos was the talk of the town when it first aired in 2015. This crime biographical drama is based on the story of real-life drug lord Pablo Escobar and his encounters with fellow drug lords, agents, and the Drug Enforcement Authority. Escobar became a billionaire through producing and distributing cocaine and Narcos chronicles his life exactly as it is, a criminal but also a human being.

Elite (2018-present)

When three working-class teens enroll in an exclusive private school in Spain, the clash between them and the wealthy students leads to murder.

It’s Gossip Girl but if the American show was sunshine and gossip, this is murder and gossip complete with the high school drama. There’s a love triangle and a murder mystery involved and a couple of skeletons in the closet to boot. Miguel Herrán, Jaime Lorente, and Maria Pedraza also known as Rio, Denver, and Alison Parker of Money Heist star in this series.

Elite has just dropped its third season last March 2020 and there are rumors that the fourth season is currently in production. Stream it here.

 

Locked Up (2015-2018)

Manipulated into embezzling funds for her boyfriend and sentenced to prison, a naïve young woman must quickly learn to survive in a harsh new world.

Locked Up follows the life of Macarena Ferreiro, a naive and innocent woman who falls in love with her boss and gets manipulated into doing becoming a criminal. She is sent to prison where she slowly discovers the lives other female inmates lead.

Fans of Money Heist’s Alba Flores will be delighted to find that she has another series similar to her character, Nairobi. Najwa Nimri who portrays Alicia Sierra in Money Heist is also a part of Locked Up’s cast.

El Chapo (2017-2018)

This drama series chronicles the true story of the rise, capture and escape of notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.

This series tracks the life of yet another notorious drug lord from his beginnings in the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1980s through his rise to power and, eventually, his downfall. El Chapo has lived a life of crime evading authorities and even managing to escape prison twice. If you’re interested in the inner workings of a famous drug lord’s mind (and if you want to avoid a life like this one), you might want to hit that stream button.

Ingobernable (2017-present)

The first lady of Mexico is a woman of conviction and ideals. But when she loses faith in her husband, she’ll need all her strength to uncover the truth.

Ingobernable is a political drama that revolves around the life of the First Lady of Mexico who is intent on pushing for internal peace, something she finds out that her husband isn’t all too convinced of. She ends up tangled in various political scandals and slowly begins to lose faith in her husband. Ingobernable is action-packed, thrilling, and exciting, and if you aren’t yet convinced, it also involves a good ‘ol dose of murder.

Cable Girls (2017-present)

In 1920s Madrid, four women at the National Telephone Company ring in revolution as they manage romance, friendship and the modern workplace.

Cable Girls is a period drama series that revolves around the lives of four women living in the 1920s. It represents the struggle and hardships working women faced during the era and the restrictions on their rights in a male-dominated society.

Grand Hotel (2011-2013)

To learn the truth about his sister’s mysterious disappearance, a young man infiltrates a hotel in the guise of a footman and begins an investigation.

Julio is on a mission to find out what happened to his sister and working for the huge Gran Hotel was the plan. He, however, did not plan to fall in love with the hotel owner’s daughter or to get caught in the many secrets revealed the deeper he digs. For lovers of Downton Abbey, this could be your next addiction.

House of Flowers (2017-present)

In this dark comedy, a wealthy matriarch tries to maintain her family’s facade of perfection after her husband’s mistress exposes their dirty secrets.

No family is perfect and the de la Moras are no exception. The family-run flower business hides the secrets of a dysfunctional family whose matriarch tries desperately to fix. The characters are intriguing but pretty soon they reveal flaws that make them irritating until the viewer is left confused about who to side with. Don’t worry though, as the series goes on, the characters get what they deserve. And then some.
