When you’re frustrated with everything going on with the world, sometimes, it’s best to just let out a scream or two. Or more. But of course, unwarranted screaming might just make your neighbors wonder if you’re out of your mind — or worse, call the police on you. So it’s best to have a legitimate reason for all the shouting. And what better reason than putting on a thrilling show to watch on Netflix?
If you want to start off slowly, try this animated series inspired by the classic video game. Castlevania follows the story of a vampire hunter, the very last one from a disgraced clan, trying to protect the world from Dracula and his otherworldly beasts. Watch Castlevania here.
Your favorite teenage witch just got a makeover — a darker, grittier makeover. Half-witch and half-mortal, Sabrina Spellman struggles to find a balance between her two worlds while also fighting against the evil forces lurking around her family and her human life. Watch The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina here.
Based on the gothic horror novel by Shirley Jackson, The Haunting of Hill House tells the story of siblings who spent the majority of their childhood in a house that would later turn out to be one of the most famous haunted houses. When a tragedy strikes, they are forced to go back to the house and face their past and all the ghosts that come with it. And some ghosts may be actual ghosts haunting the Hill House. Watch The Haunting of Hill House here.
If you think everyone has done every iteration of a zombie movie there could be, well, think again. Imagine having to fight flesh-eating, quick-infecting zombies with only a bow and arrow (and not the kind Hawkeye has) or a dagger and a sword, you’d probably think you might as well be dead. Well, Kingdom has killed off so many characters, but the creative ones (i.e. the protagonists) could prevail even without modern technology. And all that zombie horror happening while members of the king’s court play politics. Watch Kingdom here.
If you haven’t watched this yet, where have you been all this time? But for those who are new here, Stranger Things brings you back to the 1980s — except you’ve got secret government experiments and unknown supernatural forces at work. When twelve-year-old Will goes missing, so much is uncovered as his mother, his friends, and a strange young girl attempt to find him. Watch Stranger Things here.
The title says it all. American Horror Story, often abbreviated as AHS, is an anthology of horror stories with the same actors playing a different role in each season. From a murder house to a demented asylym to a coven of witches to a freak show to a supernatural hotel to a haunted farmhouse to, most recently, a suburban cult, each story can stand on its own — and can definitely make you scream in fright. Watch American Horror Story here.
If you want something less supernatural and more grounded in the real world, this thrilling series about “love” might be what you need. What started as a guy’s simple and at times awkward crush on an aspiring female writer turns into a disturbing obsession as he uses social media, the internet, and every tool he can get hold of to bring himself closer to her and isolating her from others. Watch You here.
Want to get some really deep thinking done? This anthology series would definitely show you an in-depth examination of how modern society has transformed because of the emergence of new technology. The goosebumps come in when you realize just how much technology has affected, reflected, and distorted your life. And perhaps, that’s what makes this series the most thrilling on this list. Watch Black Mirror here.
