Netflix might be convenient, but it’s still growing its list of Filipino movies. Its short list has improved a lot since the online platform first launched, but there are some movies that you still won’t be able to find there. So if you’ve been looking for old classics or new romantic comedy films to binge, try these ones that aren’t on Netflix.
Despite carrying in their hearts several failed relationships, Pia (Angelica Panganiban) and Nix (Carlo Aquino) hit it off instantly upon their first encounter. As their relationship progresses to something deeper, their differences become more apparent, forcing them to face the question: are they really ready for love when they’re stilling carrying baggages from their past? Watch on iWant.
Love isn’t only romantic love — there’s family, sibling, puppy, unrequited, ruined, prospering, in denial, jaded, and true love, among so much more. And this film explores all of the complexities of love and relationships while giving you a good laugh. Watch on iFlix.
Laida (Sarah Geronimo) has always admired Miguel (John Lloyd Cruz), and she applies at his newly established magazine publication to get closer to him. But her dreams are shattered when she realizes he’s an ill-tempered boss without care for anything except his job. But she keeps faith, allowing him to open up to her and letting them find a very special love in each other. Watch on iWant.
The sequels It Changed My Life and It Takes a Man and a Woman are also available on iWant. (Fun fact: For some reason, both sequels are available on Netflix, but not the first movie.)
Caloy (Joshua Garcia) and Mika (Julia Barretto) embark on a road trip that lets them understand love, loss, and life, all while learning more about one another and falling in love. Watch on iFlix.
Shy Tori (Kim Chiu) is asked by her best friend Chloe (Jessy Mendiola) to help her with her ex-boyfriend Zach (Xian Lim), who’s still not over his ex. It’s simple — date Zach and occupy his time so he wouldn’t ruin Chloe’s new relationship. Easy, right? Except for the part about falling in love with each other. Watch on iWant.
Uno (John Lloyd Cruz) and CJ (Jennylyn Mercado) are complete opposites with Uno motivated by his familial responsibilities while CJ is ruled by an unconditional love that puts her first above all. But when these two strangers are forced to live under one roof, they unexpectedly find love in one another. Watch on iFlix.
Everyone knew childhood best friends Ava (Nadine Lustre) and Coby (James Reid) would always fall in love — even they knew it. They’ve always hoped their friendship would blossom into something more, but it’s difficult with summers the only time they see each other. But after enduring years of long distance, could they finally find their chance for romance? Watch on iWant.
Two young dreamers (Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos) follow the tour of an indie-folk band and find each other in the crowd every time. The series of almost-but-not-quite romantic encounters allows them to learn more about one another and themselves, experiencing love, loss, and growing up all while listening to the soft crooning music of Ben&Ben. Watch on iFlix.
