Pinoys undoubtedly have the longest Christmas season. We begin during the “Ber” months (sometimes even earlier) up to the Feast of Three Kings, which is in the first week of January. That’s 5 months of non-stop Christmas jingles in malls and endless holiday sales in stores. This year is a bit different though, as we can’t celebrate the season with the usual traditions. But that doesn’t mean we can’t feel the spirit even at home and there’s one staple we couldn’t forget: Jose Mari Chan.
How are we feeling?
We’re nearing 6 months into the quarantine but someone new is added to the list of people who can go outside: Jose Mari Chan. In our playlists, radio, and streaming sites, at least! We hope the legendary singer is safe at home.

You know it’s the Christmas season in the Philippines when news channels begin countdowns on the evening news as early as September 1st, sleighbells are ringing in commercials, and of course, hear “Christmas In Our Hearts” pretty much everywhere.
If Jose Mari Chan were an anime character. Too kawaii!

“Wake me up when September ends” is a decades-old meme from the 2004 Green Day song and it’s the motto for the entire month. (We’re all tired and sleepy). But Pinoys have it different: we only know Jose Mari Chan.

Aside from this very nakaka-LSS Christmas songs, Jose Mari Chan is among the many artists who are trying to uplift spirits in These Trying Times™. In this clip, he replaces the lyrics of his song “Can We Just Stop and Talk Awhile” with something more fitting to our current situation. He opens with, “Fancy meeting you on my internet…”; truly, the internet has helped us make the distance feel less all these past months. Don’t forget to stop and talk for a while with your friends — see how they’re doing!
