After our PH bet, Rabiya Mateo, bowed out of the 69th Miss Universe early, Pinoy Twitterverse is taking the loss in stride. Mexico’s Andrea Meza ended up bagging the crown. Sure, it sucks that victory eluded us once again but there’s always the next time. This time, we’re just content with stifling our disappointments with memes and funny posts like the true blue Pinoys we are.

Since we’re in the middle of the pandemic, the pageant made sure everyone followed strict social distancing protocols. (Although later, after Miss Mexico is crowned, everyone rushes to hug her anyway). The last two women standing had to extend their arms to mimic holding hands before one of them is declared the winner. Naturally, Pinoys did some edits that lightened the scene.

This year’s hosts are Mario Lopez and Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo. Judging from the reactions on Twitter, the viewers weren’t pleased with the pair’s hosting energy, or lack thereof.
Steve Harvey’s name trended early on and people called out Olivia for looking like she didn’t eat breakfast before hitting the stage (more on that later). There was no explicit reason given why Steve couldn’t host this year but he did say he will be back for the 70th Miss U. So no, it wasn’t because of his infamous mistake back in 2015 that almost lost PH the crown.

Olivia Culpo seemed out of sorts today and everyone noticed. Did she not have enough sleep? Was she anxious about being in a venue with an unmasked crowd? The internet dropped their memes and speculations:

Maybe the reason why Olivia wasn’t feeling it was because our Miss Universe 2012 1st Runner Up Janine Tugonon was in the crowd. At least that’s what some Filipinos thought. Others also brought up the fact that Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, who is Olivia’s ex-husband’s wife, was also present for the event.
Whew! That’s a lot of information to handle. No wonder ya girl looked so done.

ICYDK, Janine was Olivia’s first runner-up back in Miss U 2012. Many say Janine should’ve won the crown and have since pitted the two together. As for actual bad blood, we think there isn’t any of that between the two.
