8 Holiday Movie Rituals

After a whirlwind of a year, who isn’t ready for a vacation? Thankfully, the holidays are here! And as everyone is busy planning the parties they would like to attend this Christmas season, they are also planning an evening to just simply lie on the couch, sip a cup of cocoa, and soak in the fuzzy vibe while watching their favorite movies. Here are some flicks that have become a holiday habit to most people:

8. Tokyo Godfathers

Three homeless friends find an abandoned child among the trash while dumpster-diving. A moving film about self-discovery with a surprising and fulfilling twist of redemption, this movie by critically-acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Satoshi Kon gives off just the right amount of feels. Perfect for the holiday cheers.

7. While You Were Sleeping

A gem from the 90s, this is an unlikely story of a…shall we call her stalker? Sandra Bullock plays a train station ticket attendant who crushes heavily on a daily commuter. When he falls into a coma during an accident on the tracks, Bullock is mistakenly identified as his fiancé—which Bullock gladly embraces. This movie is another favorite during the holidays because, hey who wouldn’t want to revisit the 90s?

6. Sleepless In Seattle

Back in the 90s, rom-com was the king of all movie genres. And the reigning majesty was a queen—Nora Ephron. This movie probably started this whole holiday movie ritual thing, it was one of those films hopeless romantics would view year after year in the hopes of trapping that Christmas lightning in a bottle.

5. Home Alone

Another staple during the holiday season, this classic from John Hughes (another film royalty from the 90s) is inescapable this time of the year. If you don’t believe us, just flip through your cable channels and see if you don’t land on a screening of this on your set. With repeated viewings, people are just now asking themselves: “What does Kevin’s dad do for a living that he can afford that big house and fly nine people to Paris on first class?”
