The other talk to be held on the following day, March 18, titled “Murakami: Running and Writing” will discuss another of Murakami’s finest works, What I Talk About When I Talk About Running. Essayist and poet Frank Cimatu, together with editor Achilles B. Mina will discuss the novel and Murakami’s own dedication to running, and connect it to their own experiences being writers and runners as well.
And to wrap up the entire festival is the event everyone is looking forward to the most — a two-night live concert at the BGC Arts Center featuring the music that have inspired and been woven into a number of Murakami’s novels, among which are Archduke Trio by Ludwig van Beethoven in Kafka on the Shore, and Sinfonietta by Leoš Janáček in 1Q84.
From March 23 to 24 at 8 P.M., be treated to a sensory experience specially curated by professor Junichi Konuma, where spoken word read by David Ezra is intertwined with different genres of music played by jazz pianists Hiroko Kokubo and her trio, the Beatles-inspired 1966 Quartet, and pianist April Dawnena Merced-Misa.
Filipinos also have a chance to win Murakami novels plus VIP tickets to the two-night concert in BGC just by sharing to their friends and to the Japan Foundation Manila their favorite Murakami book and why they love it. Three winners will be chosen based on content and number of shares and likes.
First place winner will win Men Without Women, Norwegian Wood, Kafka on the Shore, 1Q84, and Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage; the second placer will win Men Without Women, Norwegian Wood, and Kafka on the Shore; while the third placer will get Men Without Women.
Just don’t forget to register for a slot over at Japan Foundation Manila’s website!
