ICYMI: the who’s who of Hollywood gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to attend the annual Met Gala, a fundraising event for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. This year’s theme is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, the Gala’s most controversial theme to date, which shows the juxtaposition between fashion and the Church.
This year’s co-chairs were Amal Clooney, Rihanna, and Donatella Versace, along with THE Anna Wintour and were attended by some of tinsel town’s A-listers; from film stars to our heroes in sports, everyone who’s anyone in Anna Wintour’s book converged to celebrate fashion’s biggest night. Missed this year’s highly anticipated event? Here are the standout looks at this year’s most fashionable event.
Queen Rihanna literally snatched our wigs at this year’s Ball. Rihanna, which also acted as one of the event’s co-chair, took our breath away with her Pope-inspired Maison Margiela ensemble. The Vatican is literally shaking atm.
It’s a known fact that the Oscar-winning actor is the second coming of the Lord, and he once again decided to resurrect at this year’s Met Ball. Gucci’s muse dressed up with (what else?) head to toe Gucci, complete with a gold crown of thorns.
Katy literally channeled an angel that came down from Heaven with her gigantic feathered wings. The pop singer completed her look with a gold Versace chain-mail minidress paired with thigh-high gold boots. And if you think that’s already so extra, wait ‘til you hear this: the singer arrived on a vintage top-down convertible so that she could show off her look on the road too.
Most of the guys who attended this year’s Ball were a major let-down, but not the King. The ‘Black Panther’ actor literally took the whole world to church thanks to his all-white ensemble with added gold pieces.
Bacardi, Bacardi. What. A. Look! The heavily-pregnant rapper slayed this year’s theme and looked ethereal with her Moschino ensemble, covered with jewels from head to toe. The Bronx-born rapper walked down the carpet with Moschino’s creative director Jeremy Scott.
Madonna is known for her relationship with the Catholic Church, and at this year’s Met Gala, the Queen definitely got the approval of the church thanks to her look. The singer donned a Jean Paul Gaultier look: a ball gown skirt, a bodysuit with a sheer cross cut-out on the chest, and a black veil. She completed her look with a gold diamond crown of crosses.
Oh my, my, Saint Lana is at it again! Given that Rihanna all snatched our wigs, LDR also stole the show with her elaborate look. The singer rocked a Gucci gown with a massive golden pierced heart embellishment and an over-the-top top headpiece with wings (wings!).
Saint Priyanka literally saved us all with her showstopper look. The Quantico actress showed up at this year’s Ball with a crimson velvet Ralph Lauren gown (which took over 250 hours of embroidery) with an embellished gold chainmail coif.
