The Philippines has officially entered the ring once again. With Street Fighter 6 introducing its first Filipino fighter, Yasmine, this marks an important moment not only for the franchise but also for Filipino representation, which continues to grow in the global gaming scene. But she’s far from the first. Over the years, developers have created video game characters inspired by Filipino culture, history, and traditions—from martial arts and national symbols to Tagalog phrases and iconic heroes. Whether you grew up in computer cafés, on consoles, or through mobile gaming, chances are you’ve encountered these proudly Pinoy-inspired characters.

The newest addition to Street Fighter 6‘s Year 4 roster, Yasmine is the franchise’s first Filipino fighter. She specializes in eskrima (arnis), the Philippines’ national martial art that emphasizes speed, precision, and close-range combat. Her character design draws inspiration from local culture, reflected in her visual motifs and weapon details inspired by the Philippine eagle, while her karambit features feather charms and intricate etchings. Another cultural detail was included in her design: the word “Pilipinas” (ᜉᜒᜎᜒᜉᜒᜈᜐ᜕) in Baybayin on her belt. Watch out for her debut on August 3, 2026.

Introduced in 2015, Josie Rizal is one of Tekken‘s most recognizable characters after being the 2nd Filipino in a fighting game. Named after Philippine national hero Jose Rizal, Josie balances her life as she works as both a model and a professional kickboxer to support her family. Her story depicts resiliency and compassion. She is inspired to join the Tekken Force after witnessing their humanitarian efforts following a disaster in the Philippines. Her outfit also incorporates patterns inspired by the sampaguita, the country’s national flower.

Tala Nicole Dimaapi Valdez, better known as Neon, is the lightning-fast Agent from Manila. As Valorant‘s 19th Agent, this athletically designed agent possesses bioelectric power, enabling her to move with incredible speed in combat. She discharges electric bursts, overwhelming the enemies and catching them off guard. While she is impatient and emotionally guarded, Neon’s story reveals her to be someone driven by responsibility and genuinely wanting to do the right thing.

Often compared to Neon, Zeri is another Filipino-inspired electric-powered hero from Riot Games. Her powers are tied to her emotions: bright, determined, and stubborn, she channels electricity through her custom-built weapon to protect her community. According to Riot’s writers, both Zeri’s and Neon’s designs were influenced by the frequent power outages experienced around Metro Manila. The visual details, like bandages symbolizing their opposing “charges.” Although they exist in different universes, fans have noticed striking similarities in their abilities, personalities, and Filipino influences.

Officially named Isabella Rosario Dulnuan Reyes, this Operator proudly carries the long, family-centred naming tradition common in the Philippines, emphasizing heritage and lineage. She was trained in Arnis and hand-to-hand combat by her father. From a young age, Isabella’s life took a tragic turn after he was captured and killed during World War II. Consumed by grief and desire for justice, she fled to the mountains, joined the Hukbalahap resistance movement, and continued fighting in his honor.

Making her debut in 2002 with Soulcalibur II, Talim became one of the earliest—and most beloved—Filipino characters in fighting games. Her name means “blade” or “sharp edge” in Tagalog, fitting her dual-elbow-blade fighting style. She is a wind-themed fighter that relies on mobility and high-speed attacks. Inspired by traditional Filipino tribes, Talim’s design and combat techniques incorporate elements of arnis, blending cultural authenticity with fast-paced gameplay, making her a fan favorite throughout the series.

Known off the battlefield as Rowenna Valentina Coffey Divina, a support legend, was introduced in Season 19. After her family was struggling to pay bills, Divina decided to enter various fighting rings and was eventually invited to the Apex Games. Her story highlights Filipino values through the animated story, “For Us, Utang na Loob.” Her cultural representation extends into gameplay through Tagalog voice lines and holosprays, brought to life by Filipino-Polish voice actor Frankie Kevich.

Born in Masbate, Philippines, Kerry Eurodyne is one of the most influential rock stars in the Cyberpunk universe. He first rose to prominence as a member of the legendary band Samurai, where he performed as a vocalist while handling both lead and rhythm guitar. After the band drifted apart, Kerry went back to his roots, staying in the New Philippines; later, he launched a hugely successful solo career, cementing his place as one of Night City’s most influential musicians.

Representing Filipino history on the mobile gaming scene, Lapu-Lapu is inspired by the real-life Datu of Mactan, who famously defeated Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan during the Battle of Mactan. His use of twin blades draws inspiration from Filipino martial arts, particularly arnis, emphasizing speed, precision, and close-combat mastery. His in-game appearance, skills, and voice lines reflect the courage and leadership of one of the Philippines’ greatest national heroes.
