Ditch doomscrolling on the couch this weekend! We have a weekend packed with thrilling events to get you out and about. There’s something for everyone this weekend, from film screenings to concerts and a much-anticipated comic festival. Check out what’s going on in the city!
Those who love all things Studio Ghibli will be excited to know that Ghibli Fest is in full swing on the remaining weekends of July. On the roster this July 20 and 27 (Saturdays) are Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and My Neighbor Totoro. On July 21 and 28 (Sundays), fans can enjoy Spirited Away, Arrietty, Princess Mononoke, and The Wind Rises. Ghibli Fest will be held at Street Kohi, a Japanese-themed cafe in Mayaman St., Quezon City. Check them out on Facebook for more details!
Ghibli Fest is also holding a Ghibli-Themed Pottery Workshop this July 27, priced at P3,700 per person. You can register for a slot here. And if you miss out on that, you can come to the Studio Ghibli Appreciation Festival on October 19-20.
After four online festivals since 2020, the Philippine International Comics Festival (PICOF) will hold its first in-person event on July 20-21, 2024, Saturday and Sunday, 10 am-8 pm at The Podium Hall, 6/F Podium Hall. The event will include a wide range of activities for all art enthusiasts and comics fans, including new releases and book launchings, comics masterclasses, and creator’s labs. Attendees can also meet the Filipino komiks community from all over the Philippines.
Support over 200 Filipino komiks creators, publishers, and international guests! Tickets are P200 each, but the first 1,000 attendees on Saturday and Sunday get a free comics anthology, Kometverse, featuring 95 Filipino comics creators.
It’s race week once again, and this time, Formula 1 drivers will be putting the pedal to the metal at the Hungarian Grand Prix. With six different drivers already winning in the first half of the season, Pinoy F1 fans can expect an exciting race at the Hungaroring. And if you want to watch the adrenaline-pumping fight live and make friends with fellow Pinoy fans, drop by the newly opened Monza Barcade at Arcovia, Pasig, on July 21. Aside from watching the race, you can try sim racing, gorge on delicious Italian-inspired food, and even buy some authentic merch.
Indie music enthusiasts are in for quite a night on July 20 at indie band Munimuni’s Alegorya concert at the UP Theater. The five-piece will perform their hits and welcome other beloved artists like Clara Benin, Keiko Necesario, Barbie Almabis, and Sofia Abrogar to the stage. Purchase tickets for P800 online here.
Immerse yourself in the rich sounds of local music at Ayala Land and Make It Makati’s exciting weekend lineup across the city! From July 21 to 28, talented Filipino acts will be taking the stage to showcase the beauty of our musical heritage. This weekend, you can watch a Flash Mob with Alice Reyes Dance Philippines at the Glorietta Activity Center, Buskers at One Ayala Ground Floor, and Zachary Kuribu and Raven Acedera at Circuit Makati.
