Though Hollywood is still in the middle of highly contentious writers’ strikes, there are still so many exciting things happening in Tinseltown. It’s getting harder and harder to keep up, what with new must-watch titles being released left and right. And just when you thought things couldn’t get better, word on the street is a new reimagining of C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia is in the works. What’s more, Greta Gerwig — yes, the Greta Gerwig behind Little Women and Barbie — might be on it!
The worldwide premiere of the live-action film Barbie isn’t far off the horizon, and fans are beaming with excitement to see Greta Gerwig’s interpretation of everyone’s beloved doll on the big screen. But it looks like the Lady Bird director won’t be taking a break anytime soon. Sources say she’s tapped by Netflix to write and direct two film adaptations of The Chronicles of Narnia franchise.
Based on C.S Lewis’ high-fantasy book series of the same title, the story revolves around the lives of various characters and their adventures in Narnia. In 2018, Netflix revealed a multi-year deal with the C.S. Lewis Company, which means they now hold the rights to the entire Narnia series.
Although Netflix hasn’t released an official statement yet, the internet is collectively losing its mind, particularly on the possibility of Gerwig being at the helm of the new The Chronicles of Narnia movies. Read what some netizens have to say:
Am I the only one actually excited? It’s a good story with a good writer/director so as long as they have budget and good actors it’ll smash

You can never beat a creative and hardworking production team.

Which means we’re going to bawl our eyes out.
The Chronicles of Narnia joins the growing list of reboots and adaptations in the works, such as Harry Potter, Twilight, and Percy Jackson. With that said, some are up in arms about the possible new installments in the Narnia universe.
Some are skeptical of the whole project, given that it’s attached to Netflix.
If this wasn’t Netflix, I could see this working. Netflix has more reboot/adaptation flops than good movies.

And I oop-
Can we stop “rebooting” films? Nobody wants to go see the same film “but updated” every 7-10 years. I’ll go rewatch the original if I wanted to see it again.

ICYDK, The first Narnia film, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was released in 2005.
Others also feel it’s just an indication that we’re in the middle of the “creative dark ages” — the lack of original ideas to create something new.
We truly are living in the creative dark ages. Is there no talent left on the planet

But we can all agree that fans of the books only have one wish:
Please don’t ruin it

Because we’ve had enough of bad adaptations. 😭
