Beat the Heat: Cool Indoor Activities for a Fun Summer with the Barkada

Mar 10, 2025   •   Kyzia Maramara

Summer is here, which means the scorching sun is out for revenge and will burn everything in its path. Or at least that’s what summers in the Philippines feel like. But fear not: you don’t have to be drenched in sweat to enjoy a summer date or a barkada hangout. We’ve rounded up a list of activities that will keep you entertained, active, and, most importantly, chill. Here’s how to make this summer unforgettable with indoor adventures to remember.

Okada Manila Thrillscape

Okada Manila’s Thrillscape is a playground where you get to experience the thrill of going through 30+ challenges that will test your skills and the limits of your physical strength. The obstacle course doubles as an interactive tag arena where you and your friends can earn points depending on the difficulty level of the course you finish. Packages start at P499 (1 wrist tag + 2 games). And if you see yourself coming back to Thrillscape to beat your personal record, you can also avail of the solo packages starting at P1,990, valid for 3, 6, or 12 months.

Climb Central

Indoor rock climbing gym Climb Central in Greenfield, Mandaluyong, is another great way to spend a few hours without the sun’s heat soaking through your clothes. The courses suit both beginner and experienced climbers, so don’t be pressured if it’s your first time or if it takes a while to crawl along the walls. Walk-in entry prices start at P850, which includes one equipment set. Multi Passes are also available starting at P2,295 for five entries valid for six months.

Ace Water Spa

If you can’t go to the beach just yet, the next best thing might be spending hours at Ace Water Spa and getting their hydrotherapy massage. You can relax in hot, herbal pools, lazy river, steam and sauna, and the lapping pool. Kids can also enjoy water activities in the kid’s area. Entrance is surprisingly affordable, too: P680 for adults, P350 for kids below 4 ft, P485.71 for seniors and PWS, and P350 for swimmers. Each ticket gives you access to their Pasig or Quezon City branch for four hours.

Center Cage

Want to try out a new sport? Those into tennis will be happy that Center Cage in Marikina offers solo tennis and pickleball training with a ball machine. You get 15 minutes for P300, 30 minutes for P450, and 60 minutes for P800. During the sessions, you’ll be placed in personal training cages, a.k.a. mini versions of half-courts with a ball machine and a catching net system. Who knows, maybe by the end of summer, you’ll be a budding tennis player.

For a relaxing yet productive time with your barkada, try your hand at baking. Bakebe has branches in SM North Edsa, SM Aura, and S Maison Conrad. You can choose from a number of delightful dessert projects to make, starting at P688. Aside from sweet and delectable chocolate cakes, Bakebe also offers other baking projects like macarons, cupcakes, and tarts.

Speaking of being productive, here’s another indoor activity that doubles as exploring a new hobby: pottery. Book a pottery class at Wabi Sabi Studio in Pasig and try your hand at their workshops. There’s the Mug Making and Painting (P2,900), Wheel Throwing Taster (buy 1 get 1 for P6,000), and a simple painting session for P1,500. If you’re committed to the craft, you can try their Three-Day Full Course Workshop (P10,600) or their 7-day Wheel Throwing Course (P17,000).
