McDo vs Jollibee: Which Fast Food Resto Is Better?

Just a few weeks after Tropical Hut enjoyed a revival thanks to internet virality, a couple of fast-food brands are once again topping the list of trending topics. This time, netizens are debating about two fast-food giants: Jollibee or McDonald’s. This debate has already been a recurring topic for decades, but people never run out of things to say. Here’s what netizens think about the current debate of McDo vs Jollibee:

 

The tweet that started it all

Twitter user @allforkaila simply wanted to share her preference for McDo over Jollibee. “Maturing is realizing McDo is better than Jollibee,” she wrote. Just a few hours later, her tweet has gone viral and received a lot of attention from Filipino netizens. As of writing, the tweet has received over 3,000 retweets, 8,000 quote tweets, and 25,000 likes.

 

Some concur

Some netizens expressed the same opinion as the original poster. Love ko ‘to indeed, as one said.


 

But others disagree

Other netizens, however, said that they’d rather be called “immature” if that’s what it comes down to. One even jokingly called the tweet “slander”. Maturing is overrated for this netizen if Jollibee’s not part of it.


 

OFWs have a strong opinion

After spending time away for so long from the country,  many Filipinos living abroad said that they prefer the homegrown brand Jollibee. OFWs and Filipinos who have migrated are usually only able to enjoy Jollibee’s food items when they go home during the holidays.


Jollibee is starting to branch out outside the Philippines, namely in the US, UK, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Guam, and over a dozen others. Meanwhile, McDo has a huge reach across the global market, with branches in almost every major city in the world.

 

Or maybe it’s just the memories

But our perception of the “best” fast-food chain may simply boil down to the memories we associate with them. Had a lot of Jollibee when you were a kid? Or did you love the toys from McDo’s Happy meals? The feelings of joy from your childhood may just be resonating with the older you.

 

But it really depends

For other netizens, both fast-food chains have their own strengths and merits. It all depends on what you want to eat or even who you want to eat with.


 

Other fast-food chains enter the fray

Aside from Jollibee and McDo, other fast-food chains were also dragged into the debate. For some, Burger King offers the better burger, KFC has the best fries, or Uncle John’s from Mini Stop has the better chicken. And a few even point to the recently viral Tropical Hut as the superior fast-food chain.


 

Taste is subjective


At the end of the day, taste differs from person to person. Some may like Jollibee better, while others may prefer McDo, or maybe even another fast-food brand like Tropical Hut. Let’s not equate maturity with preference, because those are two different things.

But let’s also not get so worked up over other people’s opinions (like the OP’s). We’re talking about preference here, and again, that’s subjective. Let’s just let people enjoy the little things, including whatever fast-food brand they stan.
