Marking its 10th anniversary, Netflix Japan has just unveiled its most exciting lineup yet!
In a statement released for the Next on Netflix 2025 event, the streaming giant’s Vice President for Content in Japan Kaata Sakamoto emphasized their commitment to working with the country’s top and up-and-coming creators with innovative ideas to deliver stories widely and deeply, transcending borders.
He added that 2025 is going to be the most surprising, most unique, and most exciting year for Netflix Japan, as “stories beyond your imagination that you have yet to discover” are about to be told.
From K-drama crossovers to manga-to-screen adaptations, here are Netflix Japan’s offerings in 2025 that have already got us seated:
Starring: Kento Yamazaki, Tao Tsuchiya
Perhaps the most anticipated release from Netflix this year is the smash hit that is Alice in Borderland. The first live-action Netflix drama from Japan to receive a green light for a third season, it will take on a completely new story that is not based on the original work by mangaka Haro Aso. Top Japanese actors Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya are set to reprise their roles as Ryohei Arisu and Yuzuha Usagi for the final installment of this action-packed series that struck its ever-growing cult following like a meteorite. *wink, wink*
Starring: Takeru Satoh, Keita Machida, Jun Shison, Yu Miyazaki, Masaki Suda
This youth music love story–planned and co-produced by renowned Japanese actor Takeru Satoh– features a star-studded cast composed of Satoh himself, Yu Miyazaki, Keita Machida, Jun Shison, and Masaki Suda. Viewers can look forward to a massive live performance scene that features tens of thousands of extras, making it one of the most expansive musical productions in Japanese drama history.
Starring: Shun Oguri, Han Hyo-joo, Jin Akanishi, Yuri Nakamura
A serialized adaptation of the 2010 French-Belgian film Les Émotifs Anonymes, Romantics Anonymous brings together a stellar cast that includes Shun Oguri, South Korean actress Han Hyo-joo, Jin Akanishi, and Yuri Nakamura for a romantic comedy tells the heartwarming story of two individuals grappling with severe social anxieties. Their lives intersect through a miraculous encounter, with chocolate catalyzing change in their interpersonal relationships.
Starring: Hayato Isomura, Ok Taec-yeon
Soul Mate will sweep you on a journey across Berlin, Seoul, and Tokyo in this love story that spans over a decade. It follows the story of Narutaki Ryu (Hayato Isomura), who left his life in Japan only to be on the brink of death in a foreign land before he is saved by boxer Hwang Yo-chan (Ok Taec-yeon).

Locally titled “Ikusagami,” this thrilling new series will transport viewers to the Meiji era to witness a battle royale among samurai with impressionable personalities during a time of decline in their status. Some of the highlights of Last Samurai Standing are edge-of-your-seat action scenes produced by lead actor Junichi Okada.
Starring: Keita Machida, Ryoma Takeuchi
This live-action adaptation of Inoue Satou’s popular manga of the same name captures the stimulating themes of adult love and dance. Directed by Otomo Keishi and featuring Ryoma Takeuchi and Keita Machida, the story gives viewers a glimpse into the emotions of passion, rivalry, and jealousy between two ballroom dancers, set against the captivating backdrop of the world of dance.
Starring: Tsuyoshi Kusanagi
A revival of the 1975 Japanese film “The Bullet Train,” this particular project showcases modern filmmaking techniques using real Shinkansen trains and facilities—thanks to Netflix’s collaboration with the JR East company.
