ICYDK, North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) toll plazas are slowly being converted into 100% cashless RFID lanes. The shift to cashless tollways began in September 2023. Meanwhile, the dry run for the sixth batch of toll plazas implementing contactless collection started last Oct. 23 and Oct. 25, just in time for the long weekend. So, if you’ve got plans to travel or go home to provinces soon, make sure you’ve got an easy trip ahead of you. Here’s everything you need to prepare for the upcoming Undas and barangay elections long weekend:
Here’s a list of toll plazas implementing the contactless toll fee collection:
NLEX
SCTEX
These are in addition to the first five batches of toll plazas already participating in contactless toll fee collection. Visit the official Facebook page of the Toll Regulatory Board for a complete list of cashless tollways.
Aside from keeping in mind which lanes are 100% cashless RFID, planning ahead — and planning smart — can also help you avoid the inconvenience long weekends are bound to bring. Here are a few tips to save yourself the stress of being stuck on the road:
With all these toll plazas converting into 100% RFID lanes, motorists should be prepared before hitting the road. Utilize the Easytrip RFID, which lets you breeze through tollways. If you don’t have one yet, click on this Easytrip Station Finder to locate an Easytrip RFID Station near you. When it comes to the process, all you have to do is fill out a form, pay for the initial load requirement, and you’re done! They will install the RFID sticker on your car for free.
Some things cannot be stressed enough—a First Aid kit, water, power bank, and extra cash are all must-haves. There’s no denying that digital connectivity is equally essential for almost any situation, but especially travel. You can create an organized itinerary on your favorite trip-planning site, and have your preferred navigation app ready so you can stay on schedule. A travel companion app like MPT DriveHub helps users through real-time traffic alerts so you can either stick to your plan or make changes on the fly.
Avoid getting hit with that “low balance” sign on the road. Link your Easytrip RFID account with the MPT DriveHub app so you can check your balance and reload almost instantly with a few taps on your phone. Knowing your account balance also lets you properly budget your travel expenses.
For maximum comfort, long rides should have rests in between. The NLEX Drive & Dine lets travelers stretch their sore muscles and grab their grub before returning to the road. There are also retail options if you’re in the mood for a bit of shopping at brands like Crocs, USDS, Nike Factory Store, Levi’s Outlet Store, Oregon Premium Outlet, Casio Outlet Store, A+ Premium Tech Depot, Giordano, Fashion Rack, Jockey, and Miniso.
With its many dining and retail options ready to cater to tired travelers and motorists, it’s also a great example of the kind of unique experience all MPT Mobility brands seek to provide, from gamifying recycling—effectively keeping the area free of single-use plastic litter—to a wide array of restaurants to satisfy almost any sudden craving.
While no one wants to think about emergencies during their travels, preparing for unexpected situations is essential. On top of your emergency numbers and kits, the MPT DriveHub app also has a 24/7 emergency roadside assistance feature to help get you safely off or back on the road as soon as possible. Tap the Help button in the app and hit Call roadside assistance; finally, tap on the call icon for a roadside rescue, ASAP.
Get your free Easytrip RFID today at any Easytrip Station, and download MPT DriveHub today on Apple Store and Google Play to make the most of your long weekend drive, and follow NLEX Drive & Dine on Facebook and Instagram for their dining and retail updates.
