The New CATS Trailer Starring Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, and Jennifer Hudson is Getting Mixed Reactions

When CATS the musical premiered in West End in 1981 and on Broadway the following year, it was received with favorable reviews. Written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the musical and theatrical genius behind The Phantom of the Opera, Cats tells the story of a tribe of, well, cats, called the Jellicles which are about to make a “Jellicle choice” and decide which of them will ascend to Heaviside Layer (a fancy name for heaven) and come back to a new life.

CATS is one of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway. It won prestigious awards such as the Laurence Olivier Award, Evening Standard Award, and Tony Award for Best Musical. Filipinos will get a chance to witness the magic and the music unfold on stage this November as CATS will be coming to perform at The Theatre at Solaire.
Watching the musical is definitely a good idea before you watch the 2019 film remake directed by Tom Hopper (Les Miserables, The Kings Speech). The new CATS trailer dropped early Friday to the dismay of fans around the world. Although it had a stellar cast including Jennifer Hudson, Judi Dench, James Corden, Idris Elba, Ian McKellen, Rebel Wilson, Jason Derulo, and even Taylor Swift, the fuzzy Snapchat-esque faces could need some time getting used to.

Aside from blending the actors and actresses’ faces into cat bodies and making them look even more naked than if they’re actually naked, the movie also placed them in huge CGI sets to make them look like they’re the size of a cat.
