As of Nov. 13, Friday, typhoon Ulysses has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility but not without ravaging parts of Luzon in its wake. Luzon has had its share of typhoons the past month — Quinta, Rolly, Siony, Tonyo — but Ulysses caused the most widespread flooding the island has seen in years. Many can’t help but compare it to 2009’s Ondoy, which caused massive flash floods and almost drowned Metro Manila. At the height of Ulysses, Marikina’s water level swelled to 22 meters, that’s just one meter below Ondoy’s 23 meters.
Ulysses was undeniably weaker than Ondoy or even Super Typhoon Rolly, so why then has it caused much more destruction? Meteorologist Nathaniel “Mang Tani” Cruz explains that Ulysses’ impact was caused by the previous typhoons that entered the country recently.
“Ito kasing si Ulysses, ilang bagyo na kasi ang dumaan bago ito dumaan. So, ‘yung lupa, maging sa Sierra Madre ay babad na babad na. Saturated na kaya kaunting ulan lamang ay nagkakaroon ng ng run-off,” Mang Tani explained.
The typhoon left 14 dead (the number yet to be finalized) and damaged at least P4.2 billion in infrastructures. Below are photos of the aftermath of Typhoon Ulysses around Luzon.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has since ordered a swift cleanup for Manila Bay. For those asking how the dolomite beach held up:
Ano na DOLOMITE? Welcome basura again?
