Team Butterfly or Team Potato in ‘Nevertheless’? Nope, We’re Team Sol All the Way

Viewers probably started watching Nevertheless for the story of Yoo Na-bi (Han So-hee) making bad decision after bad decision in her relationships with red flag Park Jae-eon (Song Kang) or good guy Yang Do-hyuk. But after watching Na-bi dillydally so much, most of the audience are now staying for the side characters — most especially Na-bi’s classmate and friend Yoon Sol.

Our girl is smart and talented

She’s the top student in their class! Remember in the first episode when Na-bi met with her professor for a student exchange program? That’s where we first met Sol, who was introduced as their class’ top student.

 

Sol is sooo nice


This girl is so nice to everyone that you could probably consider her an actual gentlewoman. But she’s especially attentive to her best friend Ji-wan, always checking on her to make sure she’s okay, helps her carry luggage, waits for her, holds her hand when she’s scared (and when she’s not, too). Meanwhile, Na-bi has Park Jae-eon… who is scared of commitment…

 

She takes care of her loved ones

We already described how much Sol takes care of Ji-wan, but it’s not just her. Sol also takes care of each and every one of her loved ones. In Episode 8, Sol is facing her own problems, but she still makes time to ask Na-bi how she is and reminds her not to overwork.

 

She’s so laidback


Sol is pretty chill, especially when you compare her to the other girls like Ji-wan who wants in on everything, Bit-na who loves dating, and Na-bi who … yeah. And here we have Sol, who just wants to make art and take care of the people she loves.

 

She’s brave AF


But when she needs to be, Sol could speak up for herself and let the people around her know what she’s feeling. Case in point: The Confession™.

 

She’s sincere about everything


Sol loves sincerely and freely. She doesn’t expect anything in return, and sometimes, that ends up with her getting hurt. Exhibit A: Sol getting her hopes up with Ji-wan in whatever she does. Exhibit B: Sol apologizing for her feelings for Ji-wan.

Her story is important

Sol isn’t just a token LGBTQ representative in the show. She has an actual story that many people can relate to. All around the world are Sol’s who pined over straight friends for so long, who took the risk of friendships breaking off, who felt like they had to apologize for their feelings. And it’s amazing to see this kind of representation in an entertainment industry that is still dominantly conservative.

 

She deserves all the happiness in the world

Honestly, at this point, we’re okay with Na-bi ending up with whoever (seems like Netflix Jae-eon is different from his webtoon version anyway, and Do-hyuk is always a great choice), but please please pretty please give our SolJiwan a happy ending @ show.
