These ‘You Just Had to Be Here’ Tweets Are Giving Us So Much Nostalgia

It always seems to be Thursdays on Twitter these days because of these “you just had to be here” tweets that would bring you on a throwback trip. Wishing we could go back to simpler times, here are some tweets that would make you feel nostalgic AF:

 

Before streaming platforms

Before we had streaming platforms, burning songs on CDs was the thing especially when you didn’t want to spend tons on albums. Whether it’s a curated playlist or the songs you’d dance to for your elementary Christmas party, the unexpected virus from downloading on Limewire was definitely worth it. And when you didn’t have a PC home, the comp shop is the way to go! P100 pesos for 25 songs!

 

Like it’s the end of the world

We really thought the world would end in 2012 but look, we made it to 2021. If TikTok was already around this time, “Call Me Baby” and “Gangnam Style” could’ve easily gone more viral than they did. After all, these songs are catch AF. And we do miss the times where Insta influencer culture wasn’t still a thing and it was perfectly fine to post whatever you wanted and stick with Instagram’s retro filters. Now, Instagram is just filled with curated feeds and simply posting about what you like feels like a sin.

 

Beauty guru drama

We’re pretty sure there was a time on YouTube where beauty gurus just took over and everyone was obsessed with makeup brands like Kylie Cosmetics, ColourPop, and the brand that sold the eyebrow pomade everyone and their mother uses, Anastacia Beverly Hills. The domination of beauty vloggers came with lots of piping hot tea, including what went down between Tati Westbrook, Jeffree Star, and James Charles. James Charles lost millions of subscribers in just a couple of days – did you watch Tati Westbrook’s 40-minute video too?

 

The Barbie era

It’s either you dreamed of becoming a Disney princess or living in one of Barbie’s movies. Growing up, you probably had a binder full of CDs and chances are Barbie’s movies were included there. Fun fact: did you know that the first Barbie film, Barbie in the Nutcracker, was released in 2001?

 

Chick flicks

The late 90s and early 2000s chick flick movies just hit differently! If you’ve noticed it, clothing trends from these years are back again. From Cher Horowitz’ coordinated outfits to Cady Heron’s low-waist and flare pants, you’ll catch the Gen Z kids on insta and Tiktok with the same outfits.

 

Simpler times

This set of photos would instantly bring you to sweaty afternoons playing with your classmates and sharing what your parent packed for the day’s lunch. Here’s to the kids who didn’t buy from the school canteen and had to bring baon! Don’t forget the classic: the two pieces of hotdog placed on top of the rice that leaves pink marks on rice!

 

Elementary vibes

Some of the simplest joys as kids: a set of art materials, prank toys, colorful water jugs, and the folded paper that tells you about your future.

 

Muling ibalik

Before 2NE1, Dara made up one half of this iconic love team. Now that G-Dragon is allegedly spoken for, can we resurrect this ship? (A: Ok, probably not.)
