If you go and check your Spotify account followers right now, chances are you’ll find a number of questionable ones on your list. Thousands of Spotify users are reporting that certain accounts with the usernames ‘! lucasrpx‘ or ‘! lucas‘ and ‘! vitornovaes’ have mysteriously started following them. What for? Here’s what we know so far about these weird Spotify accounts.

Initially, both ‘! lucasrpx’ and ‘! vitornovaes’ accounts sported profile pictures of characters from Studio Ghibli’s Ponyo. But it seems like Internet fame got to their heads and they decided to be even more mysterious. Now, these accounts have no profile pictures. They do, however, have public playlists that speak for their impeccable music taste.
After a handful of folks on X and TikTok went viral after mentioning they found these fishy accounts on their Spotify following, everyone else started to check theirs. True enough, the majority of Spotify users are acquainted with these accounts and more.

It wasn’t only these two that were confusing everyone. There are other weird accounts like ‘! No More Lullabies’ and ‘!z teste’ that exist too.

“Apparently, if these people follow you, it’s because you gave your data to those sites that track your Spotify activity,” alleged one TikTok user.
While this isn’t confirmed and Spotify hasn’t actually released a statement about these weird accounts, many are convinced that this is the closest to the truth.
“OMG I just checked not expecting them to be there and they WERE,” said another shocked TikTok user.
But not everyone believe these accounts are related to famous AI bots and plug-ins we all love to use.
“I use all the Spotify sites ever like Judge My Spotify, Receiptify, Icebergify and they don’t follow me,” said one TikTok user.
“Nah they also followed my dad, he ain’t doing all that,” said another.
Meanwhile, other Spotify users are convinced that it’s just a bunch of people with a lot of time on their hands who decided to go on a follow spree.
“They probably just mass follow accounts nothing related to data tracking,” read one assuring comment on TikTok.
Most Spotify users simply block these unwanted accounts. You could do that too or you could let them continue to live in peace in your followers list. They’re hardly going to do any damage from culling data from your streaming habits. What do you expect them to do? Make public that one playlist you made for crying over your unrequited love back in 2019?
But it’s understandable how disturbing these accounts might be after popping up out of seemingly nowhere. If users lured them in with all the fun Spotify-related personality tests over the years, that’s evidence of how easy it is for anyone to track us down online.
Owners of these accounts (if they’re even human and not AI) remains to be a mystery but it wouldn’t hurt to put a pause on willingly giving your Spotify info to online sites.
