Before all the speakeasies and third-wave coffee chains cropped up everywhere, The Fort Strip was the heart of BGC’s nightlife scene. Now, rumors are swirling that this iconic spot may soon be closing its doors. Here’s what we know so far.
Local LGBT nightclub Nectar recently announced that they will permanently close their doors on January 1, 2025, “due to The Fort’s upcoming closure.” While many were sad to see a beloved establishment shut down after almost a decade of being “a safe, vibrant queer space” and creating a community, many were equally surprised to hear of The Fort’s impending closure.
It looks like it isn’t only Nectar that’s shutting down. On X (formerly Twitter), a post went viral about Tang Korean Restaurant ceasing operations by the end of the year. The restaurant is known for authentic Korean dishes and was even visited by Korean actor Seo In Guk last March.
“Had lunch at Tang BGC last weekend! I asked a waiter to confirm if it’s true about them closing and they confirmed that the resto will be there until Dec 2024 only,” wrote the X user.
However, as of this writing, the restaurant has yet to officially announce any plans to close its doors.

On Reddit, Pinoys mourned the closure of Nectar Nightclub but was also surprised by hints of The Fort closing. “Kahit nasa tapat lang kami ng Nectar (office), wala akong alam na magsasara din The Fort entirely,” commented one Redditor.
Another claimed that there had been plans to renovate the area before the pandemic. “Matagal na plano alisin yung The Fort nung before pandemic pa, pero dahil nga nag pandemic naudlot. Ang naka plano na talaga dyan ay mga condos and commercial buildings,” read one comment.
Meanwhile, others are speculating that the land area will be used to erect more malls and condominiums: “Considering how valuable the entire plot of land The Fort is sitting on, I’d say a new high-end mall/condo project? It’s a shame but really, the entire Fort area has languished and decayed really badly over the years.”
“Matagal na balita na idedemolish ung Fort strip pero mukhang finally matutuloy na kasi ung vet na pinupuntahan ko don lilipat din,” shared another Redditor.
8List.ph has reached out to the communications team of BGC to get confirmation of The Fort’s closure. An official statement should be expected soon.
