Last night was a star-studded affair at Xylo at The Palace in BGC, Taguig for the annual GMA Sparkle Spell Halloween Party. Every GMA artist made sure to pull out all the stops: Voltes 5‘s Miguel Tanfelix dressed as Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, Royal Blood‘s Jillian Ward wore a dark angel-inspired costume, and Sanya Lopez stunned with a snake costume. But amid all the thrilling get-up, a pair caught everyone’s eye — David Licauco and Jak Roberto, who were both, interestingly enough, wearing the same Roronoa Zoro costume from One Piece.

It was a moment worthy of the Spider-Man pointing at each other meme. In many ways, it wasn’t surprising that anyone would come as Zoro. Since Netflix released its 2023 live adaptation of the 1999 manga, Japanese actor Mackenyu, who portrayed the pirate hunter, has become everyone’s latest Internet crush. Heartthrobs like Licauco and Roberto would naturally want to cash in on that. But what everyone didn’t expect was they would both dress as Zoro in matching green hair, multiple earrings, and Zoro’s signature katanas.

Fans aren’t too pleased

Sandro Mulach and Anthony Rosaldo attended the party as Zoro, but everyone had only room to take in Licauco and Roberto’s costumes.

ICYDK, the Internet has been pitting both against each other for the longest time. Licauco is Barbie Forteza’s on-screen love team, while Roberto is her IRL boyfriend of over five years. But the two boys have always maintained that they’re good friends. Does the Internet believe that? Sure.

Fans online had mixed reactions to the matching costumes. While some had a good laugh, others thought it wasn’t fair for GMA to allow both boys to attend wearing the same costume.

“Based from past experiences @gmanetwork, doing these comparison in all your accounts did nothing good to David nor Jak. So please, your strategy is not effective. This is old school way of promoting your talents. And it stains their reputations. Do better in promoting their projs,” commented one user on X.

Others asked GMA to avoid asking Pinoys to compare the boys to each other: “GMA naman huwag niyo hayaang macompare ang dalawang artista niyo. Lift both of them up.”

Meanwhile, others are simply delighted that both heartthrobs came as Zoro.

Whether it was a sneaky move from GMA or an amusing coincidence, at least now everyone knows one thing: both Licauco and Roberto can slay any character.
