Korean films are known for their amazing cinematography as well as compelling plots, but some of the most awarded Korean films are actually based on real-life events. What may seem like fictional stories are actually based on true stories! Here are the most compelling Korean films based on real-life:
A young student’s life is turned upside down when she becomes a victim of gang rape, what’s worst is that people blame her for what happened during that one horrific night. Hang Gong Ju is a 2014 film that was based on the Miryang case of 2004.
One day on her way to school, So-won is kidnapped and abused. She miraculously survives the incident but is left scarred for life. Hope is the story of how a young girl and her parents faced the aftermath of a horrific crime. The film is based on the 2008 Nayoung case that sparked controversy after the criminal was only sentenced to 12 years in prison.

When the son of a famous anchor goes missing and the kidnapper calls asking for 100,000 dollars Han Kyung-bae has to find a way to save his only son. Voice of a Murderer is based on the kidnapping of nine-year-old Lee Hyung Ho on Jan 29, 1991. Because of the intriguing storyline, the film became the third highest-grossing film of 2007 in South Korea

During a school day off, five young boys decide to catch frogs at a mountain near their town and they never return. Five years later a disgraced documentarian moves to the town and decides to investigate the cold case of the missing five boys. The film is based on the disappearance of five children known as the frog boys.
