One Direction Just Breathed on Social Media and Fans Are Losing It

“Tomorrow! You and me got a whole lot of history #10YearsOf1D.” That’s all that accompanied a simple black-and-white image that reads “10 Years of One Direction” posted on the band’s social media accounts. It’s not much, but after so long spent waiting and hoping against hope that they’d come back, Directioners, as the fans are often called, have officially gone crazy, crazy, crazy till they see their idols again. Understandable.

Well, time zones are a thing, that’s technically today for the Philippines. Today marks the tenth year since the band officially debuted as One Direction. And it’s been quite a long ten years. While they’ve been on hiatus for the last two years, they’ve had quite the run the previous eight. And while fans have supported their individual careers as well, many are still waiting for their comeback soon. (We know we are.)

The band’s social media accounts — from Twitter to Instagram and Facebook to even their Spotify and Apple Music playlists — have all been updated, and fans all over are losing it. When they learned that the band took advantage of Spotify’s new feature of adding vertical videos to songs, well, it’s safe to say everyone’s ready to cry while listening to their 1D playlists.

The fans have been on the down-low during the band’s hiatus, but every now and then, whispers of a comeback make them rise from their long slumber. Like when Louis Tomlinson said a reunion “will happen at some point”. Or when the four remaining band members re-followed Zayn Malik on social media last April. Or when Liam Payne and Harry Styles shared a cryptic Facetime call on Tiktok.
And it seems every time there’s even just a teeny tiny chance of a reunion, fans take to social media to express their excitement. Just like now, when they’re dominating the trends list on Twitter.

I’m sure at 100% that the only thing that can save 2020 is the onedirection reunion. #ONEDIRECTIONSAVE2020 pic.twitter.com/0zyNxX0Ogy

This is what fans have been claiming, because let’s be real — 2020’s been a pretty bad year, and that’s putting it lightly. Maybe a much-awaited One Direction reunion would be the one to save us all.

On the other end of the spectrum, other fans are mocking the numerous times that they all got excited over a rumored comeback and got nothing. But we hope that isn’t the case this time . . .

Fans trended the hashtag #18MonthsMyAss to poke fun at the fact that the band originally said their hiatus would only last eighteen months. Directioners had hoped. So many times already. But well, there were so many false alarms over the band’s hiatus that Directioners are used to hoping already. @onedirection, where have you been?!?!?

While the comeback part is still up in the air, there are actually confirmed things Directioners can look forward to. According to Simon Jones PR, a 1D anniversary website, a ten-year celebration video for the fans, and interactive playlists and activations across digital platforms will all be made available on July 23rd. (Again, time zones.)
Can the comeback also be included there? Please?

Regardless of what happens, Directioners are just happy to celebrate the tenth anniversary of their favorite band. But of course, we won’t say no to a reunion and a comeback. Please come through, @onedirection. And happy tenth anniversary!
