Philippine Spots for 2016 THUMB8 Philippine Spots Pinoys Should Enjoy in 2016

By Jaime Gonzalo

It’s a new year and it’s time for new adventure. Instead of going abroad for travel, why not go explore what’s in your own backyard for much cheaper? The Philippines has so much to offer if you look in the right places. It is home to some breathtaking world wonders, great surfing beaches and some of the world’s most sought-after diving spots.

Boasting 7,107 islands, the Philippines is not restricted to busy Manila, like most tend to do. Paradise can be found just a short trip away. Here are just some spots Pinoys should definitely explore in 2016.

8. Island-hop the Hundred Islands in Alaminos, Pangasinan

Known as the Hundred Islands National Park, the national park consists of 124 islands scattered in Lingayen Gulf covering an area of 16.76 kilometers. One can rent a boat in Alaminos Wharf and set out to see or even visit some of the islands. It’s common for people to get down and have a small picnic or a swimming session on some of the island beaches. Only 3 of the 124 islands are developed so most of the islands are untouched–perfect for some secluded R&R.

7. Surf the world famous “Cloud 9” in Siargao

Siargao is a tear-drop shaped island in the province of Surigao Del Norte. Siargao is home to the most famous wave in the Philippines, “Cloud 9.” The wave was discovered in 1980 by travelling surfers and named it after the chocolate bar of the same name. Cloud 9 is the site of the yearly Siargao Cup, a domestic and international surf competition. Due to the stream of travelers visiting the spot, Cloud 9 has gained worldwide recognition in the surfing community.
